Wiltshire Conservatives Slam Lib Dem Wiltshire Council for Selling-off Council Houses

Wiltshire Conservatives have expressed grave concern at Lib Dem Wiltshire Council’s plan to sell off council houses. This follows the decision taken at today’s Wiltshire Council Cabinet meeting to dispose of council houses in Wilton and Barford St Martin.
Under the previous Conservative Administration Wiltshire Council committed to 1,300 new council houses and also to not dispose of existing council houses, many of which are in village communities, with few alternative affordable housing choices for local residents.
Cllr Rich Rogers, Conservative Spokesman for Housing said, “This is a very poor decision. The previous Conservative Council made significant progress towards delivering 1,300 new affordable homes including in Chippenham, Devizes and Melksham, with a B energy performance rating and also improving existing council homes so they also achieve a minimum energy performance rating of B so that residents have warmer homes and reduced energy costs. Alongside this, we were determined not to sell off existing council houses which are offered to local residents at significantly reduced rents.”
